Brave New World

The Return

Episode synopsis for The Return, and an episode still featuring Katherine

KATHERINE HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE — Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes is comforted by Matt, Bonnie and Damon while she waits to hear if Caroline will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood, arrives to console the family.

Vampire Diaries casts Mason Lockwood

Michael Trevino teased earlier today that Vampire Diaries had found its Mason Lockwood – younger brother to Mayor Lockwood and uncle to Tyler – and, mercifully, we weren’t left hanging for too long. Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello broke the news this evening that former Trauma star Taylor Kinney will be joining the show as a recurring guest star, making his first appearance in the premiere episode of Season 2.

The vampire diaries emmy campaign

Back on June 3rd, Deadline Hollywood reported that the CW had launched its first ever Emmy campaign, highlighting the Warner Bros.-produced shows Gossip Girl, Smallville, One Tree Hill, Supernatural, and The Vampire Diaries. DH provided a look at the CW’s For Your Consideration insert in Emmy Magazine (the brainchild of WB TV’s chief marketing officer, Lisa Gregorian) and revealed that a DVD with special Emmy promo trailers of the aforementioned shows had been included. (Any chance the general public will get to see this Vampire Diaries promo trailer at some point?)

A few days later, Vlada of TV blog Staying In provided more detail about the OMFG FYC insert, mentioning that the network had submitted the Vampire Diaries Pilot and Lost Girls. Vlada had this to say in regards to the CW’s chances for Emmy recognition:

While I don’t think that most of the CW shows can compare to the glory days of the WB, least of all Emmy-nominated shows like Mad Men, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some underrated talent on the network.

Now Zap2It’s Carina MacKenzie has chimed in on the CW’s Emmy chances, reinforcing the point that while CW shows may not stand a chance in the Emmy race, there’s something to be said for the CW roster’s influence on pop culture and the strength of some of its stars:

That’s not to say that Ackles won’t deserve [an Emmy] eventually. In fact, we think The CW is currently grooming the actors who will be tomorrow’s greats. Nina Dobrev’s subtle shifts between her two characters, Katherine and Elena, in “The Vampire Diaries” finale are very telling of her natural ability and dedication to the craft. Ian Somerhalder has spent a decade on television, but it wasn’t until he hit The CW that he truly found his stride with Damon Salvatore.

What do you guys think? Is the campaign ballsy or futile? Agree with the Vampire Diaries episodes submitted?

Summary for season 2 of the vampire diaries

Ahhh, just like old times, isn’t it? As you read this, the CW is holding their upfront in NYC and, thanks to Michael Ausiello, we have an “official” summary for Vampire Diaries season two. “Official” in quotation marks because, obviously, this summary is a bit tongue-in-cheek and doesn’t really tell us all that much. But it sure is fun to speculate, isn’t it? UPDATE: Courtesy of the CW, the full TVD write-up via the CWTV.com Blog…

Returning for its second season, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. During season one, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons − Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in 1864, while Damon was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago. At the end of season one, Elena’s uncle set a plan in motion that brought the Founder’s Day celebration to an end amid chaos, destruction and death, and saw the return of the vengeful Katherine Pierce. Next season, the appearance of the villainous Katherine in Mystic Falls throws a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon, and the other residents of Mystic Falls must choose sides as they fall victim to a new breed of danger. New and unexpected friendships will be forged, allies will become enemies, and hearts will be broken. Stefan and Damon will be forced to face a villain more evil and diabolical than they ever believed possible. And they’ll take their shirts off. Frequently. The series stars Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert, Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert, Sara Canning as Jenna Sommers, Katerina Graham as Bonnie Bennett, Candice Accola as Caroline Forbes, Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood and Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman. Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson (“Scream,” “Dawson’s Creek”), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Private”) and Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”).

My favorite scene from the entire Vampire Diaries show

I love this scene, I just wish that it was actually Elena kissing Damon, not Katherine. I wish Damon and Elena were together!! (This video does not work on my website. You can click the watch on YouTube thingy.
